“This year, as I celebrate my 50th birthday, I’m taking on one of the most challenging and inspiring races in the world — the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.”

Michael has run Comrades before, but this year’s race carries deeper meaning. At nearly 50, he’s taking each step not just for himself, but for the children, families, and older adults served by Marillac St. Vincent Family Services.

A Journey of Perseverance

On June 8th, Michael will join thousands of runners from across the globe to cover nearly 90 kilometers (about 56 miles) from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, through the valley of a thousand hills.

Having first run Comrades fifteen years ago and completed the race multiple times, Michael knows the journey ahead is both daunting and deeply meaningful. With courage, perseverance, and the support of a strong community, he believes we are capable of achieving what once seemed impossible. Every step he takes on race day is for the community he serves and for all of us who believe in building a stronger, more compassionate world together.

Together, we can go farther than we ever could alone.

The spirit of community is central to both the Comrades Marathon and Marillac St Vincent Family Services. At MSV, we believe in the power of people coming together to support one another and disrupt the cycle of poverty.

Just as no runner completes Comrades alone, no person facing hardship should walk their
journey alone.

Just as no runner completes Comrades alone, no person facing hardship should walk their journey alone.
